Firewalls and Anti-virus software


I have a hardware firewall how do I configure this to work with the Dif Freedom?

The optimal way to connect to the Dif Freedom is through port 1001, to check your connection settings in the Dif Freedom, please do the following:

a) Open the Dif Freedom
b) Click "change Connection Settings", then go to: Connection Settings
c) For the SIMULATION system, the "URL or Domain name" should be: canalsimul.difbroker.com or 193.178.175.38
For the LIVE system, the "URL or Domain name" should be: canallive.difbroker.com or 193.178.175.48
Port number should be 1001
"Use HTTP" and "Connect via proxy server" should NOT be ticked.

You can test connectivity through port 1001 on our port test page by pressing the "port test link". If everything is ok, you should get "You have reached the trading system port test page using TCP port 1001".

Please note that routers generally have built in firewalls. These firewalls can in some cases cause connection issues in regards to Dif Freedom. Please refer to your routers manual on how to configure the firewall.


I have the Windows XP Firewall how do I configure this to work with the Dif Freedom?

To configure your Windows XP firewall, please do the following:

1) Go to "Start" - "Settings" - "Network connections"

2) Right-click on the "local Area Connection", if you have got a dial-up connection, right-click on the "Dial-up" icon --> go to "properties"

3) Select the tab called "Advanced" --> then click "Settings"

4) At the "firewall configuration" window, select the tab called "Exceptions" --> And then click on the button where it says "Add Program"

5) At the "Add a Program" window, click on "Browse"

6) At the "File browse" window, browse for the IitClientStation2.exe file. When you find this, double-click the file or click on the "Open" button.

The default path is: C:\Program Files\Diffreedom\DIF Freedom

7) At the next window click on the "OK" button.

8) At the "Firewall configuration" window click on the "Add Port" button.

9) At the "Port Configuration" window fill out the "Name" field with a name and fill out the "Port number" field as 1001. The type is "TCP" and click "OK".

10) At the "Port Configuration" window fill out the "Name" field with a name and fill out the "Port number" field as 443. The type is "TCP" and click "OK".

11) Click "OK" twice.

I have a McAfee Internet Security 2005 suite how do I configure this to work with the Dif Freedom?

This will explain how to get the Dif Freedom to run if you have the McAfee Security 2005 version 7.0 suite installed on your PC.

1) During the installation phase of the Dif Freedom, the McAfee Security Suite will come with an alert stating that program Dif Freedom is requesting access to the internet. Click on the button “Grant Access” in order to continue and complete the installation of the Dif Freedom.

After the installation is complete you will want to run the Dif Freedom for the first time. You will be presented with a login screen and using your provided login credentials click on the Ok button in order to logon to the Dif Freedom.

2) The McAfee Security Suite will come with an alert stating that the program IitClientStation2.exe is requesting access to the internet. Click on the “Grant Access” button in order to continue to login on the Dif Freedom.

You are now logged into the Dif Freedom and have configured the McAfee Internet Security Suite to work with the Dif Freedom.

Please be aware that when new updates are available for the Dif Freedom, the McAfee Internet Security Suite will ask you the same question as in point number 2

I have a Norton Internet Security suite how do I configure this to work with the Dif Freedom?

To get the Dif Freedom to run if you have the Norton Internet Security 2006 suite installed on your PC please do the following:

1) During the installation phase of the Dif Freedom, the Norton Internet Security suite will come with an alert stating that the program Dif Freedom is requesting access to the internet. Click on the button “CLOSE” in order to continue and complete the installation of the Dif Freedom.

2) The Norton Internet Security suite in default security mode will come with an alert stating that Norton Internet Security suite has learned that "IitClientStation2.exe" should access to the internet. Click on the "CLOSE" button to accept the alert.

3) If the Norton Internet Security suite is set to "high security", Norton Internet Security will ask if Java applets should be allowed to run on your PC, allow these Java applets when using the Dif Freedom as Java is an integrated part and is required in order to get the Dif Freedom to run correctly.

I have a F-Secure Internet Security how do I configure this to work with the Dif Freedom?

F-Secure configuration
1. Open F-Secure
2. Click on 'Virus & Spy Protection' on the left
3. Click on 'Advanced' at the bottom right
4. Click on 'Real-time scanning' on the left
5. Click on 'Exclusions' on the bottom right
6. Click on the Objects tab
7. Check the 'Exclude Objects' checkbox
8. Click 'Add'
9. Browse for the .XIC file
10. Click Ok

Also, could you try the following to add the trade software into application control on F-Secure.
1. Open F-Secure
2. Click on 'Internet Shield'
3. Click on 'Advanced'
4. Click on 'Application Control' on the left
5. Click on the 'Connecting' tab
6. Click 'Add'
7. Click 'Browse' and browse for the trade software's .exe file (IitClientStation2.exe) under C:\Program Files\Diffreedom\DIF Freedom
8. Double click the IitClientStation2.exe file
9. Select 'Allow' for both Client (Outbound) and Server (Inbound)
10.Select 'Application only' for both verify.
11.Click Ok
